CASE STUDY: ST JAMES SCHOOL
CLASSROOM & WC UPGRADE
The biggest transformation in the smallest of spaces… Split into two separate areas the WC block and last of the remaining classrooms to be refurbished.
The WC’s saw the isolation and full strip out of services and finishes, to allow the full lining of walls with plasterboard and skim, removing the former painted brick finish from view. New cap and coved vinyl flooring with hygienic white wall, non-corrosive ceiling grid with satin spa plastic faced tiles, ensured the clean and easily maintainable finish.
IPS panelling, cubicles systems and bespoke vanity units with sink troughs, neatly squeezed into the area to make maximum use of space. All this complimented with new oak veneer doorsets finished the full refurbishment and new look.
Meanwhile, the classroom refurbishment unveiled damp issues following the strip out of finishes, resulting in extensive remedial works to all walls, ensuring the classroom is fit for use for many years to come. The next challenge was to dry out the new plasterwork following remediation, allowing sufficient time to complete the fitout works, prior to the kids arriving back after the summer break… 2-weeks following, the room was ready to accept a new teapoint, skirting, window cills, bespoke storage cupboard. Decoration progressed with the mechanical and electrical 2nd fix. Carpet tile and vinyl sheet was installed to provide a messy play area and more traditional classroom setting. To complete the works, the existing period door to the classroom entrance was removed off-site, dipped and stripped, sanded and returned. Keeping the original features was key to the sympathetic refurbishment and history of this building.
